Welcome back to a new year at Misson Primary School. I hope you have all managed to do something nice during the break, whether at home or abroad.
In the last newsletter I sent a list of dates of events in school for the autumn term and I would now like to give some further information for some of them.
Key dates for this half term are:
- We will continue to invite parents to the last Friday assembly of each month these will be Friday 26th September and Friday 24th October.
- Year 6 Cycling training starts – Tuesday 16th September
- Individual photographs Wednesday 17th September

- Parents evening Year 5&6 ONLY – Thursday 23rd October 3.30 – 4.30pm

Please note the correct days for the welcome morning and curriculum evening, these were incorrect in the summer term issue of the Misson News.
Parents Welcome Morning
The event will run from 9.00 to 10.00am
This is a chance for parents to meet their child’s teacher and spend some time working with their child on numeracy or literacy tasks, and teachers will be available to answer any questions you may have. Please also feel free to look around the rest of the school and see what children are doing in other classes.
To make sure we are able to register the children properly please could all parents come to the hall when they have dropped their children off, where tea and coffee will be available. Once teachers have finished registration they will come and collect you.
You are welcome to stay for the whole hour but you can leave earlier if necessary, likewise if you need to arrive after 9.00am (for example to drop a child off at Pre School) that is no problem, just go to the school office where Mrs Ingram will send you in the right direction.
Meet the New Curriculum Evening
This Event will run from 6.00 – 7.00pm
We have planned this to be an informal evening, where you can grab a drink and chat with the members of staff who are responsible for different areas of the curriculum. Find out what has changed, what has stayed the same and what children are expected to learn in their particular year group.
- Mrs Wellsman – Early Years Curriculum
- Mrs Caseley – Literacy
- Mrs Beecroft – Science
- Mrs Scrivens – Computing (formerly ICT)
- Mr Jones – Geography and History
- Mrs Hogg – Maths
Wine, fruit juice, tea and coffee will be provided along with some nibbles to soak them up. We hope this will be a pleasant way to find out more about the new curriculum and how we will teach it.
Local Leader in Education
Following our successful inspection in March, Nottinghamshire County Council have asked Misson Primary School to become part of the Local Leaders of Education programme. Our school will form a partnership with Ranskill Primary School to help them make improvements and support their leadership team.
In collaboration with governors the local authority have asked me to work at Ranskill on Thursdays for the rest of this term. In my absence Mrs Caseley will be in school on Thursday as acting deputy headteacher. Other members of staff may also spend some time supporting areas that they have particular expertise in.
This is an exciting opportunity for Misson to work with another school to share the collective expertise in both schools. We are very pleased to be recognised as having the skill and expertise to support other schools which is a requirement for schools wanting to be rated Outstanding by OFSTED.
A list of other significant dates for the coming year and calendar are on the events page.
